Start with empty Grid in Pivot Grid

I worked through the example with my own dataset and it works fine but I’d like to have the designer loaded with options and the user choose how they want to proceed. It seems to preload the grid. Also, when I try to drag a column or row off the grid nothing happens.

I see how it works now. I was presetting the rows, columns and values per the example. However, when I drag a value field back into the pivot list then drag back into value list it loses its default aggregation and displays a count of Cost. Drag one more time to value list and the default is back.
